First 100 years: largest ever census of women in law
02/03/18Having had the opportunity recently of attending a talk at which Christina Blacklaws presented, I look forward to hearing more from the Law Society about this initiative when Christina becomes president in July.
The Law Society is due to publish the findings of the largest survey ever conducted on women in law as part of wider efforts to help women become equality activists. The Society received nearly 8,000 responses about issues such as career barriers and equal pay.
I had not appreciated until I attended the talk that women have only been allowed to be lawyers for such a short amount of time. We should all take an interest in the findings and get involved where we can especially as we approach International Women's Day.
Women in leadership will be one of Blacklaws' key themes when she becomes Society president in July. 'We all have an opportunity, we have a responsibility, to do something to make a positive difference. I hope that, together, we can.'
