In the aftermath of Bawa-Garba, Dame Clare Marx, Chair of the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management, has been commissioned by the General Medical Council (GMC) to conduct an independent review into how cases of gross negligence manslaughter, and culpable homicide in Scotland, involving doctors are initiated and investigated.  

On 4 June 2017 Dame Clare's team invited written submissions, which will provide some of the evidence they will consider.

Written evidence to the review can be made online. The deadline for submissions is Friday 27 July.

Dame Clare's team of 10 include Dr Clare Gerada, Leslie Hamilton, Professor Pali Hungin, Bertie Leigh, Liz McAnulty, Vivienne Parry, Selva Ramasamy, Professor Iqbal Singh, Dr Jude Tweedie, and Dr Iain Wallace.

Dame Clare has said: "People should answer as many or as few (questions) as they wish, but the more thoughts and ideas we receive the richer the evidence from which we will be able to prepare our report".

As the medical and legal community have strong views about the Bawa-Garba case, I encourage doctors and organisations to take part in this review.
