Housing stock-owning local authorities and the Regulator of Social Housing’s consumer standards
20/05/19The letter acknowledges the RSH’s previous correspondence to registered providers following the Grenfell Tower tragedy in relation to tenant’s safety. It also refers to the two regulatory notices it has issued to two local authorities in respect of a range of health and safety requirements and compliance with the Home Standard.
The letter also notes that the RSH most commonly finds breaches and serious detriment in relation to the Home Standard. It acknowledges that the RSH can only take enforcement action where there has been a breach of the consumer standard and that breach has, or could, cause serious detriment to current or future tenants.
The letter also suggests that local authorities may wish to seek their own assurance that they are in compliance with the Consumer Standards and to draw this to the attention of its elected members.
