I chaired a round table today with CEOs from the Housing sector. Key learnings around M and A are:-

  1.  Align your values, it’s the glue that will hold a deal together
  2.  Be clear as a Board about what your red lines are and when to pull out of any deal
  3.  Have a budget for coffee and wine, successful mergers are all about communication and reassurance
  4.  Put the future ahead of the past
  5.  When the going gets tough, review why you are doing it and the benefits
  6.  You will need pace, energy and a 48 hour week
  7.  A successful merger doesn’t finish on completion, it takes years to align systems, cultures and deliver real benefits and value for money
