The Government has published guidance for public bodies on activities during the run-in to the 2018 local elections on 3 May.

To note:

  •  FOIA requests should be dealt with as normal;
  •  Consultations in an area in which elections are taking place should not be launched (but on-going consultations can continue as normal);
  •  Where candidates wish to visit NHS property, decisions are for the relevant NHS body.  Should visits be permitted to, for example, hospitals, it should be on the basis that there is no disruption to services and that the same facilities are available to all candidates. Care should also be taken to avoid any intrusion into the lives of individuals using the services.
