Katharine is a fantastically accomplished individual and I really enjoyed discussing our contrasting routes into the different branches of the profession. Sharing our own experiences and the challenges we have faced in our careers so far, including our personal highlights (at the start of the month I won ‘Minority Lawyer of the Year 2019’ at Chambers Diversity & Inclusion Awards for Europe) with a truly engaged group of attendees was incredibly fulfilling.

I was especially pleased to see such a diverse audience: White, Black, Asian, mixed heritage, partners, solicitors, paralegals, business service colleagues etc. It shows that people at Capsticks from across all areas of the business are truly engaged in improving diversity and inclusion within the firm.

In my experience, for a firm to move the dial forward it is vital that its leaders live and breathe diversity and inclusion, as they set the tone for the business—I have often seen leaders “talk the talk” but not “walk the walk” when it comes to diversity and inclusion. However, this year’s Black History Month has left me feeling more optimistic than ever, and I truly believe that we can all make a contribution to making Capsticks a more diverse and inclusive workplace.
