Capsticks strengthens its construction expertise with two new Partners in the Corporate & Commercial team
10/10/24Catherine Kay and Matthew Phipps are the latest Partners to join Capsticks’ growing construction team.
After a period of subdued capital spending in the UK and high inflation, now, more than ever, public sector infrastructure projects require pragmatic and experienced legal advisors to ensure that clients obtain the best results possible for their capital expenditure. Catherine and Matthew are key additions to Capsticks’ team of experts working to deliver an outstanding service and secure the best results for its clients on capital projects (including the New Hospitals Programme, where the firm is currently advising on 12 projects).
Catherine has over 25 years’ experience acting for both public and private sector organisations. She specialises in non-contentious construction and engineering, with expertise in planning and tendering of projects, letters of intent and the completion of building contracts, terms of engagement of members of the professional team, collateral warranties, bonds and guarantees and project funding.
Matthew is a construction lawyer with over 15 years’ experience in dispute avoidance and resolution. He provides pragmatic legal advice blended with industry knowledge and commercial awareness, throughout the full life-cycle of buildings and infrastructure assets. Matthew has particular expertise in the law and practice of construction adjudication.
Stephen Tainsh, Partner and Head of the Corporate & Commercial team at Capsticks noted:
“I’m delighted to welcome Catherine and Matthew to our team. With the change in government, we anticipate renewed attention on construction needs across all our sectors, such as in healthcare in the New Hospitals Programme. With Catherine and Matthew’s arrival we are well placed to meet those needs as go-to advisers to our clients.”
Senior Partner, Rachael Heenan, commented:
“It has been a challenging year for our clients, with resources stretched beyond anything we have seen. As a firm we have taken this time to strengthen our service offering and as part of this we are growing our team to ensure our clients know they have go-to advisors by their side, so they can focus on serving their communities.”
Catherine is based in the firm’s Manchester office, and Matthew in the Birmingham office.
