Jessica Bass
Senior Associate, Barrister
Jessica is a Senior Associate Barrister in the Regulatory Team. She is a specialist in professional regulation and an experienced advocate, having completed pupillage at the Nursing and Midwifery Council and worked as a lawyer in the NMC’s case preparation and presentation team for a number of years.
Experience
Prior to completing pupillage, Jessica undertook fitness to practise investigations in relation to dentists, barristers, actuaries, social workers and other health and care professionals. Jessica has also represented nurses in fitness to practise proceedings on behalf of the Royal College of Nursing.
Prior to joining Capsticks, Jessica gained valuable experience working with vulnerable clients as a volunteer at drugs charity Release. She has also participated in a number of student programmes including supporting the Prison Law team at 1 Pump Court Chambers, teaching law in prisons and producing an educational toolkit about disclosure of criminal records for charity Unlock.
Expertise
Jessica has significant experience preparing and presenting the full range of fitness to practise hearings, including high profile cases, complex clinical matters and cases involving sexual misconduct and dishonesty. Jessica has dealt with investigations and fitness to practise hearings involving expert witnesses and both vulnerable witnesses and vulnerable registrants.
Jessica has represented regulators and registered professionals in interim order, review, and substantive hearings and has also presented matters on behalf of regulators in the High Court.
