Experience

Lizzie Bond is a senior associate in the team. She has worked in the legal sector for 12 years, and specialises in Court of Protection health and welfare work, including deprivation of liberty applications and serious medical treatment cases. Since joining Capsticks in 2023, Lizzie has also been building up her experience in inquest work.

Lizzie regularly advises on the following issues:

  2. S21A and S16 Court of Protection proceedings (regularly conducting own advocacy)
  3. Serious Medical Treatment cases (including withdrawal of life sustaining treatment)

  5. Inherent Jurisdiction proceedings

  7. Inquests

Before joining Capsticks, Lizzie worked in-house at a local authority, where she was the Deputy Principal Lawyer for litigation work. She was responsible for the adult social care legal work, advising on a range of issues and supporting the busy social work teams across the county. Prior to this, Lizzie spent several years in private practice taking instructions from the Official Solicitor to act for P in Court of Protection proceedings. She has acted for a range of different clients, including vulnerable adults, advocates, family members, social workers and now NHS bodies. Prior to her Court of Protection practice, Lizzie worked for a national law firm specialising in criminal law. 

Lizzie has also conducted training for a range of audiences, including mental capacity advocates, other solicitors, social workers and NHS bodies regarding the Mental Capacity Act, case law updates and on the Court of Protection.

Notable Projects

  • NHS South East London Integrated Care Board v JP & Ors [2025] EWCOP 8 (T3) (26 February 2025) and NHS South East London Integrated Care Board v JP & Ors [2025] EWCOP 4 (T3) (24 January 2025) – represented the ICB in a case concerning the withdrawal of life sustaining treatment, where key issues in the proceedings including the delay in bringing the matter to court and the role played by Integrated Care Boards
  • NHS North West London Integrated Care Board v AB & Ors [2024] EWCOP 62 (T3) (30 October 2024) - represented the ICB in a case concerning the withdrawal of life sustaining treatment and hydration.
